Two years ago Lady Gaga disclosed she was raped when she was 19. At the time she revealed she attempted to blamed her self for it and didn’t tell anyone about the rape for seven years. But in an interview with the Today Show, the pop-star said she’s suffering from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result of the rape.
PTSD is a mental disorder that can develop after a person is exposed to traumatic event such as rape or accident. Those suffering from PTSD may show these symptoms; mental or physical effects to trauma related cues, attempts to avoid trauma related cues, disturbing thoughts and dreams related to the event.
Lady Gaga has been a strong advocate of LGBT rights. Speaking during a visit in Ali Forney Center in New York, she said her PTSD condition helped her understand others. At Ali Forney Center, she addressed a group of homeless LGBT teenagers.
