Jill Stein Backtracks On Recount In Pennsylvania

Green Party nominee, Jill Stein

Green Party Presidential nominee, Jill Stein, has said she won’t proceed with the statewide recount in the battleground state of Pennsylvania. Stein said it’s “outrageous” for the judge to rule that voters requesting recount should pay a bond of $1m. She lamented that such “an exorbitant figure is a shameful, unacceptable barrier to democratic participation”

Meanwhile, her campaign spokeswoman, Jordan Brueckner, has said recounts will continue in hundreds of precincts in some counties in Pennsylvania. It’s unclear what they aim to achieve by continuing with the recounts there.

Secretary Hillary Clinton

The Clinton campaign said earlier they will join efforts in Wisconsin and in other states if Jill Stein initiates them. It’s uncertain if they will follow through with their promise in Pennsylvania with this new development. But Pennsylvania is not the only place where Ms Stein is experiencing hurdles. On Friday, Michigan attorney general filed a suit to stop recount in his state.

These setbacks must be disappointing for Ms Stein who once told CNN that the only way to know if there was hacking is by “counting paper votes.” However, this news will mean hopelessness to those who donated nearly $7m to fund these recounts. Their hope of a different election outcome is now dashed for good.
