United States President-elect, Donald Trump has promised on Wednesday to detach himself from his vast business. Mr Trump said he took the decision “in order to fully focus on running the country in order to make America great again”. He stressed he’s not mandated to leave his business by law but he’s doing so to avoid perceived conflict of interest.
Since Mr Trump won the presidency, there have been various reports on how his businesses pose potential conflict of interest. CNN estimates Mr Trump owns or has a position in more than 500 companies.
The president-elect also announced he will hold a major news conference with his children to outline how his business operations will run. While Mr Trump has done a couple of one on one or joint interviews with some journalists, he has never held a news conference since August. He’s been communicating with the Americans people via social media.
